| ARRA - Aquaculture Program |
***As of October 26th, 2009 the Alabama Department of Agriculture & Industries have issued approximately $9,014,395.91 in funding to various aquaculture producers within the state. Approximately, $1,014,559.09 was returned to the USDA Farm Service Agency headquarters in Washington, D.C. due to program requirements.) Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the Secretary of Agriculture has provided a grant to the State of Alabama. This grant is to assist eligible aquaculture producers for losses associated with high feed input costs during 2008 calendar year.
The State of Alabama will have to return approximately $670,000 to FSA from the $10,028,955 funds received for the aquaculture grant program. The reasons Alabama can't allocate all the funds is because there is a $100,000 cap for any one producer and a producer can only receive funds equal to his losses from the 2008 increased feed cost.
